Manchester United lead race to sign Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are placing themselves in pole position to sign Rasmus Hojlund, as reports from Italy insist an offer was already made to Atalanta.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are in the lead to sign Rasmus Hojlund. The report from Italy claims the Red Devils had made an offer worth €50-55 million to Atalanta, which may have been lower than their valuation.

There are plenty of puzzling questions surrounding Manchester United’s chase of Rasmus Hojlund. For starters, what is his asking price and the limit the Red Devils are willing to reach? Atalanta had often asked for an astonishing sum, which may have priced out Erik ten Hag’s side.

Manchester United had explored many other options, like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, before narrowing their hunt down to Hojlund. They are confident about closing the deal for far less than Atalanta’s earlier asking price.

A €60 million bid was reportedly planned in the background. But Manchester United were waiting on things to evolve in the striker market. The report suggests they have made a €50-55 million offer to sign the 20-year-old. Whether the terms are acceptable to Atalanta remains the question.

Manchester United also tried to make a part-exchange offer. But Atalanta have shown no interest in such a deal. Hence, they would prefer a cash-only agreement for their rising star. The Red Devils were also busy with the Andre Onana deal, and now that the goalkeeper has signed for the club, bringing a new striker has taken precedence.

There are no other suitors for Hojlund as things stand, which puts Manchester United in pole position for the 20-year-old striker. The Red Devils are not flush with cash and got stunned by Atalanta’s earlier asking price.

They should hope to reach an agreement around the €50-55 million mark, although Atalanta might reject the bid and ask for more. An improvement in that bid should likely seal the deal for the Red Devils. Ten Hag will hope for player sales to improve his current budget, as he would still want a new midfielder to partner with Casemiro in the middle.

For now, the Hojlund chase will take precedence, with Manchester United eager to bring a starting striker to their ranks. The 20-year-old lacks the experience needed to lead the line for the club, but he has the talent to offset his limitations and flourish at Old Trafford.
