Reading have approached to sign midfielder Charlie Savage from Manchester United, as Ruben Selles looks at the 20-year-old for his side.
According to Football Insider, Charlie Savage has emerged as a target for Ruben Selles at Reading. The 20-year-old midfield prospect needs to have a chance to break into the Manchester United first team, which could prompt a departure.
Charlie Savage, the son of former footballer Robbie Savage was pencilled in for a promising career. He even made a senior appearance for Manchester United in the 2021 Champions League, playing only a minute.
Then manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have considered bringing the young midfielder up to the first-team ranks, but that has yet to happen. Meanwhile, with the door to breaking into the first team fast closing, he has to play regular senior-level football and may choose to go away.
Ruben Selles, who managed Southampton for a few months last season, has been appointed as the Reading manager. The Portuguese boss is now keen on taking Savage from Manchester United. The 20-year-old midfield prospect may get to play regularly at the League One side, but there was also interest from Championship teams.
Any move will depend on the amount of regular football he gets to play next season. Savage had featured heavily for Manchester United’s youth sides last season before joining Forest Green on loan in January. Over there, he played 15 times, including 13 starts and scored a single goal.
Reading have approached Manchester United for the 20-year-old midfielder. But whether they want him on loan or permanently remains the question. Savage has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford with the option of another year.
While Savage is a highly-rated star, he could potentially join other youth products to leave Manchester United this summer. Barcelona are interested in Marc Jurardo, as they are keen to re-sign the 19-year-old.
Similarly, rivals Manchester City are keen on Harrison Parker, who could also leave Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are keen on City duo Tyler and Jack Fletcher, sons of former midfielder Darren Fletcher.

As for Savage, he could still forge a career, but it may take some time before returning to the Premier League. He will barely get any chances at Manchester United, meaning a move to Reading could help in a big way to start playing regular senior football.
