Liverpool have Boubacar Kamara on their list of potential midfield targets, as Jurgen Klopp still has to bring replacements for outgoings.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are interested in Boubacar Kamara as Jurgen Klopp looks for new midfielders. The Aston Villa star is one of the options on their list, with Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure also among those favoured by the Reds boss.
Liverpool’s transfer priorities were clear at the start of the window, and made a solid start with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister. Jurgen Klopp had to rebuild his midfield with new options that replace some of the departing stars and improve the overall quality.
However, in recent weeks, things have changed for the club drastically after reports of a raft of departures. Klopp would have stopped at Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but now three more midfielders could depart.
Klopp may have wanted to focus on bringing in a new defender before the window shut and then may have gone on to keep that group intact. Instead, he’s now furiously looking at new midfield options. At the time of writing, Al Ettifaq have agreed on a deal for Jordan Henderson, who will leave their training camp to finalise a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Fabinho remains linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and was left out of their pre-season tour. Losing those two and potentially even Thiago Alcantara would leave Liverpool short of experience in the middle, which might become a source of concern.
Chieck Doucoure remains a target to replace Fabinho. But Klopp may need more than one player to come in before the window shuts. Now, whether as an alternative to the Crystal Palace star or an addition, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara emerges as a target.
The Frenchman arrived on a free transfer from Marseille last summer and had a decent first season in England. Under two managers at Villa, the 23-year-old star has been a regular starter and somewhat warrants the interest of Liverpool.
The Red are also keen on Leon Goretzka and others, including Romeo Lavia. However, the reason for chasing the 23-year-old star could be his potential asking price, as Liverpool might consider him a cheaper alternative to other targets.
Whether they are serious about the Villa star remains the question, but the Frenchman undoubtedly fits their profile. For now, they could finalise sales of Fabinho and Henderson while also being open to considering offers for Thiago, as they could then shift their attention towards new arrivals.
