Harry Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, but Barcelona will look to sign him in 2024.

According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United are keen on signing Harry Kane. But they could face competition from Barcelona next year if the Tottenham talisman does not move this summer.

Apparently, Barcelona are hoping to sign the Tottenham striker on a free transfer next year when his contract expires. Kane is currently in the final year of his contract, and Tottenham are under pressure to sell him.

The North London club will not want to lose a player of his quality as a free agent. So it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a lucrative deal for him. Along with Manchester United, Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing the player as well.

The Bundesliga champions have already had bids turned down for the player, and they are expected to return with an improved offer. Daniel Levy will hope to hold on to his star striker for as long as possible.

So Tottenham will probably hope that he can sign a new contract with them. However, Kane has shown a willingness to move on this summer. So it will be interesting to see where he ends up ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 29-year-old striker is yet to win a single trophy at the club level, and he will feel that he needs to utilise his peak years better. A move away from Tottenham could be the ideal step up in the player’s career right now. He will look to join a club where he can win major trophies. Meanwhile, he scored 32 goals across all competitions last season, singlehandedly leading the charge for his team.

Barcelona could also use a world-class striker like him, especially with Robert Lewandowski in his twilight years. Kane would be a sensational acquisition on a free transfer. But it seems highly unlikely that Tottenham will hold on to him this summer and let him leave for free next year.

It is highly likely that the North London club will eventually cave in and sanction his departure this summer for a reasonable price. Barcelona will probably have to make their move this summer if they want to sign him. That said, the Catalan giants are going through financial difficulties, and they will not be able to afford Kane this summer.

His wages could also be a problem for the Blaugrana, who are struggling with their inflated wage bill. The opportunity to play for a big club like Barcelona will certainly be a tempting proposition for the England international. But the move simply does not make sense financially this summer or the next. So Manchester United will be in contention to sign the Englishman if he becomes a free agent.
