Liverpool keen on Cheick Doucoure

Liverpool might look to sign Malian midfielder Cheick Doucoure from fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace this summer.

According to a report by Football Insider, Cheick Doucoure is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are exploring a potential move for the 23-year-old midfielder. And the Crystal Palace star’s £60,000-a-week wages make him an attractive, low-cost option to bolster the midfield unit.

Cheick Doucoure was one of the best young midfielders in Ligue 1 when he joined Crystal Palace from Lens last summer. The Malian international spent nearly half a decade at Estadio Bollaert-Delelis before moving to the Premier League. And he took no time to become a pivotal figure for the Eagles.

The 23-year-old has turned out 35 times thus far for Crystal Palace, chipping in with three assists. And Doucoure has been one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League in the past year. But the youngster’s progress might not bode well for the Eagles, with Liverpool keen on signing him.

The Reds have been busy in the market this summer, and bolstering the midfield unit is their priority objective. Liverpool officially lost three midfielders as free agents earlier this month. In addition, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho face uncertain futures at Anfield amid emerging interest from Saudi Arabia.

Fabinho is a target for Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad, while Henderson will likely join Al Ettifaq. With Liverpool finalising the deals for both midfielders, they will need a replacement. And while the Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, they need a more defensive-minded option.

Romeo Lavia is thus a top target for Liverpool this summer. But Southampton’s asking price and the widespread competition is complicating matters. So Cheick Doucoure has emerged as a viable alternative. And the 23-year-old’s £60,000-a-week wages make him an attractive option, as he will not take up much of Liverpool’s wage bill.

While Liverpool will likely offer him more than £60,000 per week, the deal is still a long way away from concluding. The Reds are only exploring the option to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder. And it will be interesting to see if they approach their fellow Premier League club for Doucoure.
