Liverpool set to intensify efforts to sign Romeo Lavia

Liverpool are set to ramp up their efforts to land 19-year-old Belgian star Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Premier League giants Liverpool are set to increase their efforts to land Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia in the ongoing summer transfer window. Southampton will demand around €60 million to part ways with the 19-year-old.

The Reds are going through a midfield revamp of sorts and have already parted with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita this summer. Despite bringing in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, there is an urgent need for further additions to the roster.

The need to do so will only increase should Fabinho seal a move away to Al Ittihad. The Brazilian international was left out of the club’s roster that travelled to Germany for pre-season and is inching closer to completing a move to Saudi Arabia.

Doing so will not just hand Liverpool a decent transfer fee but also rob them of their lone specialist senior number six. Stefan Bajcetic has shown much promise but is still far too inexperienced to be handed a first XI role on a weekly basis.

Liverpool have long been interested in Lavia and could not step up their interest in the coming weeks. Just 19, the Belgian is one of Soputhampton’s best players and is also attracting attention from Arsenal and Chelsea

Southampton are open to selling Lavia but are seeking €60 million for his services. The Reds are not keen to meet the amount, and it remains to be seen what headway is made in negotiations in the coming weeks. Apart from future-proofing the position, the young Belgian will also add to the club’s homegrown players quota.

While a prodigious player, Lavia is still inexperienced and has chinks in his armor that need to be ironed out. Liverpool will be well advised to add Lavia to their roster but will also need to bring in another proven player who can take to the field off the bat.

Doing so will give Jurgen Klopp more options while also allowing Lavia and Bajcetic to develop without being thrust onto the forefront. It further adds to the club’s midfield roster giving them a youthful set of players to choose from for the next decade.

It will come as a surprise if Liverpool fails to sign two more midfielders this summer. The Reds love a surprise and time will tell whether Lavia is just a faux pas or a player they are willing to go all in for.
