Romeo Lavia is open to joining Liverpool after holding talks with Jurgen Klopp, with the German manager now planning wholesale changes to his midfield.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Romeo Lavia is leaning towards joining Liverpool if presented with the chance this summer. Jurgen Klopp has held talks with the 19-year-old midfield sensation as the German boss plans on wholesale changes in the positions following recent updates.
Liverpool always wanted to strengthen their midfield this summer. But few thought it would be a complete revamp. The arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and then Dominik Szoboszlai seemed enough at one stage. But Jurgen Klopp may not stop there and could bring several more names.
Khephren Thuram remains a target, as does Romeo Lavia, with Liverpool holding a keen interest in the Southampton star. The Reds have already shown reluctance to pay his £50 million asking price, as the Saints show no signs of slashing the demand.
Meanwhile, recent reports indicated Liverpool had closed the doors on new midfielders despite their optimism about signing Lavia. The reason for that was the options available to Klopp. But recent developments in the transfer market have brought them to the negotiating table again.

Jordan Henderson is considering an exit from Liverpool, while the club could look to cash in on Thiago Alcantara. Earlier on Thursday, David Ornstein reported that Saudi side Al-Ittihad are set to make a £40 million bid for Fabinho and that the Reds could consider the deal if they had a replacement lined up.
If those moves materialise, Liverpool might consider the 19-year-old midfield sensation as the ideal replacement for their midfield. They might even go further by signing another option before the window shuts.
As for Lavia, Sacha Tavoleiri insisted Klopp had spoken to the 19-year-old recently. After the talks, it became clear that Lavia wanted to join Liverpool and that personal terms won’t stand in the way. Discussions on the contract proposals might have already occurred between the club and the midfielder’s agents, indicating a move in the right direction.
Liverpool will have to show swiftness in securing Lavia ahead of their rivals. Arsenal hold a well-documented interest in the midfielder, but Mikel Arteta will only sign the 19-year-old if Thomas Partey departs. Chelsea are also in the mix, and they might see Lavia as an alternative to Moises Caicedo.
Hence, Liverpool must act quickly to secure the midfielder, although they would like the asking price reduced from £50 million. With the Southampton star now leaning towards joining them, it gives Klopp space to manoeuvre and pushes his club to agree.
