West Ham United are leading the race to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire amid interest from Newcastle United.

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are keen on having Harry Maguire in their ranks ahead of next season. The 30-year-old’s future has been up in the air for a while now, and he is expected to be on the move in the ongoing window. Newcastle United are also interested in him.

There is a lot of interest in his services from the Premier League. West Ham and Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the Manchester United captain. The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad and have solid depth in their defence. As a result, they are willing to bet on the 30-year-old.

While Newcastle have been after his signatures all summer, they are behind the Hammers in the race for the England international’s services. David Moyes is keen on adding another centre-back to his ranks and believes the Manchester United skipper could be the right man for the job.

While both clubs are keen on having him in their ranks, his wages are a major roadblock. Maguire earns a whopping £190,000-a-week at the Manchester-based club and still has two years left on the lucrative deal.

His £190,000-a-week wages are beyond the budgets of both English clubs, and a move can only take place if the player takes a major pay cut. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are ready to sell the 30-year-old. He is no longer a part of their plans, and offloading him will provide them with funds that they can use to bolster their squad.

Erik ten Hag’s team are ready to incur a loss in order to get him off their books. They had spent around £80 million to sign him back in the day and are now ready to sell for around £35 million according to the report.

While the 30-year-old is keen on proving his worth during the pre-season, he might be open to a move elsewhere given that he is way down the pecking order under the Dutch manager. Ten Hag prefers Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and even left-back Luke Shaw over the England international.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking to sign another centre-back. If they do manage to sign one, Maguire might hardly get any game time at Old Trafford in the upcoming season. So joining West Ham or Newcastle will bode well for him.
