Liverpool have cooled their interest in 22-year-old Micky van de Ven, thus boosting Tottenham’s chances of signing the Dutchman.

According to WAZ, Liverpool are no longer chasing Micky van de Ven despite holding a strong interest in the Dutchman. With the Merseysiders cooling their interest, Tottenham’s chances of signing their target improved.

For weeks, many media outlets, including Fabrizio Romano, had suggested how close Tottenham were getting to Micky van de Ven. Spurs considered him one of their priority defensive targets since the appointment of Ange Postecoglu.

Yet, there were rumours of interest from rivals, most notably Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp had been in the market for a left-footed centre-back, but so far, hasn’t nailed down on a particular target. Micky van de Ven, already regarded as a player similar to Virgil van Dijk, seemed like a viable target at a stage, but that no longer remains the case.

Despite reports of Liverpool rivalling Tottenham for the Dutchman, they have now cooled their interest. The reasons behind ceasing the pursuit of the 22-year-old remain unclear. It could be due to the budgeting and their inability to move current defenders.

Liverpool’s centre-backs are right-footed, which makes the need for a left-footed star important. Yet, with the Micky van de Ven option available in the market, they have cooled their interest.

Meanwhile, the news will likely cheer up Tottenham fans who may have had worries following Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old. Now, Spurs are close to completing the deal, and things are moving in the right direction after reports claimed they had made a verbal offer to Wolfsburg.

The report claims £30 million should prove enough to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. Spurs are in the process of reshaping their backline. Others like Edmond Tapsoba and Clement Lenglet are also linked, which indicated they wanted more than one centre-back in this window.

There are still questions about why Liverpool would not try to sign Micky van de Ven. Yet, it’s good news for Tottenham, which paves the way for the north Londoners to finalise a deal as soon as possible.
