Oscar Zambrano is a target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana already in talks to sign the 19-year-old LDU Quito midfielder.

According to Stalin Cobena, Oscar Zambrano is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Catalan giants have already initiated the discussions to sign the 19-year-old midfield sensation. His current club LDU Quito will look to recoup a sizable chunk in sell-on percentage apart from the transfer fee.

Oscar Zambrano is a native of Santa Domingo and has made considerable progress in his homeland. The Ecuadorian Under-20 international represented Colorados SC, LDU Quito, and CD America de Quito in his formative years. And the South American whizkid currently represents LDU Quito.

The 19-year-old made his first-team debut last season in April 2022. And since then, Zambrano has come leaps and bounds, turning out 28 further times while chipping in with one goal. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.

The reigning La Liga champions have already signed a midfielder this summer, with Ilkay Gundogan arriving in a Bosman move. But the German international will likely reprise an advanced role instead of being a like-for-like replacement for Sergio Busquets. So it behoves Barcelona to invest in a holding midfielder.

Considering Frenkie de Jong can play as a deep-lying playmaker, Barcelona can make do with the Dutchman for some time. But investing in a young and promising holding midfielder will hold the Blaugrana in good stead. Romeo Lavia is thus one of the prospects to have emerged on the radars of Barcelona.

But the Belgian international is too expensive for Barcelona, with Oscar Zambrano now emerging as a target. And the Catalan giants are already in talks with LDU Quito over a possible deal. Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian giants are expecting an official offer from Barcelona in the coming days.

In addition, LDU Quito will ask for a sizable sell-on percentage clause in an agreement with the defending La Liga champions. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can secure Zambrano’s services by ramping up the discussions and submitting an official bid.
