Liverpool have taken a back seat in their pursuit of 25-year-old winger Federico Chiesa amid heavy interest from Newcastle United.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Paisley Gates, Liverpool have been linked with a potential move for Federico Chiesa of late. However, they are not going to make any move unless they lose out on one of their star wingers. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old’s future at Juventus is uncertain, and he could be on the move in the ongoing summer.
Chiesa joined Juventus back in October 2020. He went from strength to strength after making the move, which was initially on loan. And Juventus completed a permanent deal last summer. The Italian international was on fire both club and county.
However, injuries have not helped his cause and the 25-year-old hasn’t been at his best of late. The 25-year-old featured in a total of 33 matches last season but was on the pitch for less than 1,500 minutes, and he could only manage a total of 10 goal contributions.
His contract with the Old Lady runs until the summer of 2025. Juventus tried to extend his deal, but they cannot really afford to meet his demands. As a result, a potential move away from the club in the ongoing summer seems a real possibility.
The Serie A giants are ready to sell him, but they won’t do any business below €50 million. Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with the Juventus winger for a while now. Their manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player.
While they are interested in his services, the Merseyside club won’t be making a move in the ongoing season. They will only push for his services if Mohamed Salah ends up leaving the club. At this point in time, it seems he is all geared up for another season with Liverpool.
However, there is a lot of interest in the Egypt international’s services from Saudi Arabia. And, given the financial strength of the Saudi Pro League, anything is possible. While Liverpool have decided to take a back seat, Newcastle United are ready to go all out for the 25-year-old’s services according to a report by Tutto Juve.
The Magpies are keen on bolstering their squad ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Chiesa. They are set to feature in the Champions League next season and are looking to build a team capable enough to compete in both the league as well as the UCL.
They have been in negotiations for his services of late and progress is expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, one thing is certain; Newcastle United are ready to meet the €50 million price tag set by Juventus. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can land the Liverpool target at the club.
