Liverpool, Manchester United frontrunners to sign Federico Chiesa

Liverpool and Manchester United are leading the race for the signatures of 25-year-old Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

According to a report by Paisley Gate, Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on having Federico Chiesa in their ranks ahead of next season. Both English giants are looking to bolster their squad and have their eyes on the 25-year-old whose future at Juventus is uncertain.

The Old Lady acquired the services of the Italian international back in October 2020 from Fiorentina. It was a two-year-long loan move with a buy obligation. The move was made permanent last summer and the overall cost of the deal was around €60 million.

While the player has showcased his pedigree on occasions, he has not been consistent because of injuries. As far as the recently concluded season is concerned, the 25-year-old did feature in 33 matches but was on the pitch for less than 1500 minutes and he could only manage 10 goal contributions.

There are only two years left on his current deal and he wants a significant increase in his wages to pen down a new deal. Chiesa wants his wages to go from €5 million to €8 million a season. However, Juventus can’t afford such a deal at this stage.

The 25-year-old is no longer the centre of their new project and the Old Lady are ready to listen to offers in the region of €60 million. There is a lot of interest in the Italian international but United and Liverpool are ahead of others in the race for his signatures.

The Red Devils have managed to secure Champions League football for next season and are looking for a forward who can share the goal-scoring load with Marcus Rashford. A fully-fit Chiesa can surely help their cause and they are considering pushing for his services.

The Merseyside club are also willing to bet on the Italian international. The Reds’ priority is to complete an overhaul in the centre of the park but they are also looking for another forward. One of the reasons for Liverpool’s struggle last season was long-term injuries to some of their key forwards.

They want to ensure that they have enough depth to take care of such situations next season. While Chiesa himself has a history of injuries, they are considering betting on the 25-year-old. Liverpool are ready to offer him wages of around £132,000-a-week. With United and Liverpool both ready to push for his services, it will be interesting to see if any of them can manage to land him at the club.
