Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is reportedly expected to join Bundesliga club Union Berlin on loan for the next season.

According to Florian Plettenberg, David Datro Fofana will join Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin on loan in search of regular playing time.

Chelsea signed David Datro Fofana during the January transfer window. But the talented young striker has not had ample game time since joining the West London club. He has featured only four times during his stint thus far with Chelsea. So it makes sense for him to move on in search of regular playing time.

The young striker had just three appearances in the Premier League last season, and he will be hoping for more opportunities in the coming seasons. The 20-year-old needs regular first-team action in order to continue his development and fulfil his potential.

A loan move to the Bundesliga would give him the opportunity to showcase his qualities on a regular basis. Chelsea have already signed Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson this summer, with the former arriving from the Bundesliga.

In addition, they are expected to sign another striker, and they have been heavily linked with the move for Dusan Vlahovic. Fofana has clearly fallen down the pecking order, and he should be seeking opportunities at another club.

The 20-year-old will look to continue his improvement at Union Berlin and return as a better player next summer. Mauricio Pochettino has shown in the past that he is willing to give opportunities to young players if they are good enough. So Fofana will certainly fancy his chances of pushing his way into the Chelsea first team in the coming seasons.

Even if the 20-year-old striker fails to make the cut at Stamford Bridge, impressive performances during his loan spell will allow Chelsea to sell him for a substantial amount of money in the coming seasons.

Chelsea will have seen how Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun impressed in France during his loan spell, and they will be expecting a similar impact from Fofana. Prior to his move to Chelsea, the talented young striker scored 22 goals in his final season with Molde. So there is no doubt that he has the attributes to develop into a quality goal scorer.
