Galatasaray are keen to bolster their squad with Liverpool midfield star Thiago Alcantara, who could also stay put in Merseyside.

According to Fanatik via Sport Witness, Liverpool midfield star Thiago Alcantara emerges as a target for Galatasaray. The European giants are keen to bolster their squad with the Spaniard, and their vice-president has reportedly held talks with the 32-year-old about a move.

Thiago Alcantara was supposed to lift the levels at Anfield and provide a different dimension to their system. Jurgen Klopp pushed to sign the player in 2020, but things have not gone as planned. Injuries have hampered the midfielder’s role in this team, with the Spaniard making only 18 starts last term.

With a contract expiring in 2024, Liverpool are yet to take a firm decision despite previous reports claiming he could get sold alongside other stars. Yet, the Merseysiders seem unclear about their plans to strengthen their midfield further as Klopp looks for another option in this market.

After the early addition of Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool recently signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. There have been heavy links to Romeo Lavia, but his price tag remains problematic, and any move will depend on outgoings.

Liverpool may have to evaluate the futures of players like Thiago, as this summer seems like the last chance to recoup some money. The Liverpool midfield star has already rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia, which indicated his desire to stay at Anfield.

However, with Liverpool likely to accept a reasonable bid if it arrives, Galatasaray have put themselves in the mix by registering an interest. Their vice-president, Eden Timur, reportedly held talks with the midfielder ahead of a possible move, but things are complicated.

They seek to sign the Spaniard to bolster their options, indicating that Thiago could have an important place in the first team. Yet, there’s a feeling the 32-year-old might prefer to keep playing in one of the top five European leagues.

The report also adds that Thiago has ‘welcomed’ the proposal from Galatasaray and even enquired with Liverpool to understand the conditions of the Merseysiders. They are yet to receive an appropriate response from the English side, but a move might happen if the offer is right.

Thiago’s sale would free up considerable wages for Liverpool, thus enabling them to formulate a plan to sign Lavia. As for the Spaniard, he could have a good continuation to his career at one of the top five European leagues, but Galatasaray could also appeal if there are no more doors to knock on.
