Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele have reportedly advanced their discussions over a possible agreement of a new four-year contract.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ousmane Dembele is a step closer to signing a new contract with Barcelona. The discussions between the two parties have advanced. And the French international will sign a four-year contract with the Blaugrana. Meanwhile, his current deal contains a release clause worth €50 million.

Ousmane Dembele has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund half a dozen years ago. The 26-year-old did not make a positive impression in the first few years due to his fitness problems and attitude issues. But his performance levels have improved after Xavi Hernandez’s arrival as the new manager.

The French international has made nearly 200 appearances for Barcelona, racking up 40 goals and 43 assists. Dembele also won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Les Bleus. But the player’s Barcelona future is uncertain as he has entered the final year of his contract. And such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Recent reports have linked the Frenchman with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. And the presence of a release clause worth €50 million makes the Barcelona attacker an attractive target for his prospective suitors. But widespread reports have suggested he remains committed to Barcelona.

Talks between Barcelona and Dembele’s camp have stretched for weeks. And the reigning La Liga champions are keen on finalising the agreement with the 26-year-old as soon as possible. And the report claims that the discussions between the two parties are advancing, with an agreement in sight.

The Catalan giants are thus making good progress in talks with Dembele’s representatives. And Barcelona will likely remove the release clause of €50 million once the two parties have an agreement. In addition, the World Cup winner will sign a four-year contract running until June 30, 2027.

That will take Dembele past his 30th birthday at FC Barcelona. So the Blaugrana will likely enjoy the Frenchman’s peak years. Meanwhile, the World Cup winner will also be one of Barcelona’s captains in the coming season. But it will be interesting to see if any of Dembele’s suitors can turn his head amid advancing talks with Barcelona.
