Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with a return to Croatia on the cards.

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Ivan Perisic is now close to terminating his contract with Tottenham Hotspur. And the 34-year-old wide man is set to return to Croatia as a free agent by joining Hajduk Split.

Perisic joined Tottenham on a free transfer from Inter Milan last summer under Antonio Conte. He had previously worked with the Italian manager during their time together at the Italian club, so it is no surprise that he choose to reunite with contact once again.

The 34-year-old was a key player for Tottenham this past season, and he picked up 12 assists across all competitions. The experienced winger was deployed as a wing-back, and he managed to put up solid performances in multiple roles.

There is no doubt that his departure will weaken Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see if the London club can bring in quality replacements. Apart from his quality as a player, the 34-year-old experience, mentality and leadership will be missed. The Croatian international has been linked with a move away for months, especially after the departure of Antonio Conte.

It was believed that the Italian manager was crucial to Perisic’s decision to join the North London club. So his departure has forced the player to consider his future. A return to his homeland would be ideal for the player at this stage of his career, and the lower intensity of football in Croatia will allow the 34-year-old to prolong his career as well.

Tottenham have already brought in James Maddison to improve their attacking options this summer, and they should look to sign a specialist left-back as well. Ryan Sessegnon was hardly outstanding last season, and Sergio Reguilon does not have a future at the club. It makes sense to invest in a quality left-back this summer. Ben Davies is currently the only reliable left-back at the club.

As for Perisic, he will look to enjoy the remaining years of his career in his homeland, and he should prove to be a superb position for Hajduk Split. The 34-year-old remains a quality player who will make an immediate impact on the Croatian outfit and improve them immensely.
