Chelsea express interest in Rayan Cherki

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the French attacking midfielder. Rayan Cherki.

According to a report from 90 Min, Chelsea are hoping to sign the 19-year-old Frenchman this summer.

Cherki has been a key player for Lyon this past season and the 19-year-old could prove to be a solid, long-term investment for the Blues.

Chelsea need to bring in more quality in the middle of the park and the 19-year-old will certainly add creativity and flair from the central areas.

The Frenchman is versatile enough to operate as a winger as well, and it remains to be seen whether the Blues can get the deal done.

Chelsea recently sanctioned the departure of Mateo Kovačić and Mason Mount to the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United respectively. The Blues will have to replace their creativity in the side and someone like Cherki could prove to be a sensible addition.

Although the 19-year-old is quite young and cannot be expected to hit the ground running and replace the end product of Kovačić and Mount, he has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the near future.

Working under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino will only help improve further and fulfil his potential.

The Argentine manager has done exceptionally well to groom talented young players during his time at Espanyol, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

He could help the 19-year-old Frenchman develop into a key player for Chelsea in the coming reasons.

The opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge will be an attractive option for the young midfielder, but Chelsea will have to agree on a deal with his club first. It is fair to assume that agreeing on personal terms with the midfielder might not be a problem for the London giants.

Chelsea have spent significant sums of money on new players since the change of ownership and they should be able to afford Cherki this summer.

The Lyon midfielder picked up five goals and six assists across all competitions last season, and his end product is likely to improve when he’s playing alongside top-class players.

A move to England would be the ideal next step in the player’s career, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
