Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign 19-year-old Israeli midfielder Oscar Gloukh, a target for Barcelona.
According to Ed Aarons of The Guardian, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in Oscar Gloukh. The 19-year-old highly-coveted midfielder is also the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Red Bull Salzburg prodigy’s agent recently touched upon the growing interest in the youngster.
Shahar Greenberg, Gloukh’s agent, said, “There has been so much interest in Oscar for the last few months but we will have to wait to discuss any offers with his club.” Meanwhile, the youngster has been in fine form this summer at the European Under-21 Championships, most recently netting the winning penalty in the quarter-final win over Georgia.
Oscar Gloukh is a native of Rehovot and started his youth career at Maccabi Sha’arayim. But he spent most of his formative years with Maccabi Tel Aviv before making his first-team debut as a 17-year-old in August 2021. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, even becoming a senior international for Israel.
The 19-year-old is currently in action at the European Under-21 Championships, guiding Israel to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Gloukh joined Red Bull Salzburg in a deal worth €7 million in January. And the highly-coveted midfielder has chipped in with two goals and two assists in 17 outings. In addition, his progress has alerted several bigwigs, including Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
Gloukh has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. And the Blaugrana showed interest in the teenage sensation in January before he joined Red Bull Salzburg. Meanwhile, the continued eagerness to sign him might be a byproduct of Real Madrid winning the race to sign Arda Guler.
As for Arsenal, the Gunners are on a youth revolution under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta. Several young prospects have already come leaps and bounds in the Spaniard’s guidance. And the versatile Gloukh can be an option to bolster the Arsenal midfield in the long run.
On the other hand, Manchester United can do with a player of Gloukh’s qualities amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Fred and Scott McTominay. While the 19-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder, he can also be a box-to-box midfielder. So he is a viable target for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and RB Leipzig are also interested in the highly-coveted midfielder. But Leipzig might have a tall order landing the teenage sensation as he wants his next adventure to be in England or Spain. And it will be interesting to see if any high-profile suitor can prise him away from Red Bull Salzburg this summer.
