Newcastle United are keen on having 25-year-old Rennes midfielder Lovro Majer in their ranks ahead of next season.

According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United are interested in signing Lovro Majer. The 25-year-old has been putting in some impressive performances over the past two seasons and he is on the radar of multiple clubs from across Europe.

Majer joined Rennes in the summer of 2021 and he has gone from strength to strength since making the move to France. The Croatian international has featured in a total of 78 matches for the French club and has been involved in 25 goals.

As far as the recently concluded season is concerned, the 25-year-old featured in a total of 42 matches and managed to contribute towards 10 goals. While his numbers don’t really look outstanding, Majer has had an impact on the team that is beyond just numbers.

Majer’s contract at Rennes runs until the summer of 2027 but he is expected to be on the move in the ongoing summer transfer window. Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

The Magpies were pushing hard to sign Adrien Rabiot from Juventus. Eddie Howe is a big fan of the French international and wanted him at his disposal. However, with Rabiot signing a new deal with the Turin-based club, Newcastle are forced to shift their focus elsewhere.

Howe’s team have identified Lovro Majer as an alternative to Rabiot. The 25-year-old has similar qualities and can feature as an attacking midfielder as well as a central midfielder. And, as per the report, they have already asked their management to hold talks with the player’s representatives.

Newcastle are all set to feature in the Champions League next season and they are looking to bolster their squad to ensure they can be competitive in both the Premier League and the UCL. Howe’s major concern is his midfield, he is desperate for new signings and believes Majer could be a valuable addition to his ranks.

However, the Magpies are not the only club in the race for the 25-year-old. There are other clubs interested and they could push Newcastle all the way.
