West Ham United recently approached AZ Alkmaar to enquiry about the availability of 24-year-old Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
According to a report by Italian outlet Sport Italia, Tijjani Reijnders is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are one of several Premier League clubs keen on the 24-year-old. And they have approached AZ Alkmaar for an in-depth enquiry for the productive midfielder.
Tijjani Reijnders is a native of Zwolle and spent his formative years with five Dutch clubs, including three from his hometown. But after graduating from the PEC Zwolle Academy, he had to bide his time before becoming a regular at the first-team level. And the Dutchman has risen to prominence in the last couple of years.
The 2022/23 season was Reijnders’s best thus far with AZ Alkmaar, as he contributed to 19 goals in 54 appearances. The 24-year-old chipped in with seven goals while providing 12 assists in those outings. And the midfielder’s progress has captured the attention of several clubs, including West Ham United.
West Ham United will enter the market for at least one midfielder this summer. The Hammers are on the verge of losing club captain Declan Rice, who will soon join Arsenal in a record deal. And the English international will leave a gaping hole in the West Ham midfield unit with his departure.
So the London giants need to invest in a top-class midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And several candidates, including Denis Zakaria, have popped up on West Ham’s radar over a summer move. But Tijjani Reijnders is also an option worth considering for the UEFA Europa Conference League winners. And they have submitted an enquiry to AZ Alkmaar for him.
The 24-year-old Dutchman will not be a like-for-like replacement for Declan Rice. But Reijnders’s productivity will add a new facet to West Ham’s gameplay. And with the Hammers struggling for goals last season, the AZ Alkmaar midfielder, who contributed to 19 goals last term, can be an asset.
But Reijnders has also attracted interest from Liverpool. In addition, AC Milan will look to sign the 24-year-old Dutchman in the summer transfer window. But with West Ham submitting an in-depth enquiry, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this battle.
