Erik ten Hag wants a resolution to Manchester United’s striker problem, as he could consider making a move for FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi.

According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, as relayed Sport Witness, Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi has emerged as a target for Manchester United. Erik ten Hag has got desperate to solve their striker issue after bowing out of the chase for some expensive options, including Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

Manchester United signed Mason Mount, and the England international’s arrival has brought positivity to the fanbase. They and Erik ten Hag know the Englishman’s arrival will not solve all their problems, with the glaring issue of a new goalkeeper and central striker still looking large for the Red Devils.

Ten Hag had originally wanted star names like Harry Kane, only to see them being priced out of the race due to his enormous price tag. There is a similar theme with Victor Osimhen, with the two strikers considered early choices. But it has been troublesome to see them bow off these chases.

There are alternatives, but the chase has become complicated due to the unavailability of experienced options. Randal Kolo Muani has also emerged on their list, but he, too, will cost plenty, with Eintracht Frankfurt demanding close to €100 million. Hence, they are now switching their attention towards a cheaper option, something for the short term.

Manchester United are now exploring the idea of signing FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi. The 31-goal striker has a €20 million price tag and could move to a big club if presented with an opportunity. The Iranian striker is not exactly what ten Hag may have ideally wanted, but it could fit at least in the short term.

Taremi was previously linked with a Premier League move and recently admitted rejecting some offers. Yet, there is a feeling he will switch sides imminently depending on the kind of offers available. Manchester United would certainly suit his requirement. Porto’s asking price would also suit Manchester United in their quest.

Meanwhile, Taremi scored a whopping 31 goals across all competitions last season. So he could be an asset for Manchester United for a few years before they move on to a younger option. And with Erik ten Hag admiring his qualities, a summer move is possible.
