Newcastle United are still interested in acquiring the services of 29-year-old Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United remain interested in having Yannick Carrasco in their ranks ahead of next season. The Magpies were keen on having him at their disposal back in the day and they could reignite their interest in the coming days.

Carrasco’s future has been the talk of the town for a while now. Barcelona have the option to acquire the services of the 29-year-old for a fee of just €19 million. The Catalan giants agreed on a deal with Atlético Madrid that they could sign the Belgian when they allowed Memphis Depay to join the Madrid-based club back in January.

But, Barcelona’s option to sign Carrasco is only valid until the 30th of June. With only a few hours left, it looks unlikely that the Catalan giants will be able to land him at the club. For this move to go ahead, they would have liked to sell one of their forwards. But, they haven’t managed to offload any player of late.

While Diego Simeone is keen on having Carrasco at this disposal next season, the situation is a bit complicated. His contract runs out in the summer of 2024 and he is yet to pen down a new deal.

While Atlético did try to extend his deal, they couldn’t meet the player’s demands. Meanwhile, the Madrid-based club is not at their best in terms of their financial situation. As a result, there is a possibility that he could be on the move in the ongoing summer if the right bid arrives.

Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are still interested in the 29-year-old. They were keen on having him back in the day but a move couldn’t materialize. However, they are in a much better situation at this point in time and also have Champions League football to offer.

The Magpies have the financial strength to prise him away from the Madrid-based club. And, they do need attacking reinforcement to be competitive in both the UCL and the Premier League. While it seems Carrasco is set to stay at the Spanish club, things could change quickly if Newcastle decide to make moves.
