Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for 27-year-old Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have now held direct talks to sign Andre Onana. The 27-year-old goalkeeper will cost around €50-55 million this summer.

Onana has been a key player for the Serie A club, and his performances helped Inter Milan reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last season. He has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be an attractive option for the player, and it remains to be seen whether his suitors are prepared to pay the asking price. He is a key player for Inter Milan and the Italian outfit will not want to lose him for cheap. The reported €50-55 million asking price seems reasonable for a player of his ability.

Manchester United need to sort out their goalkeeping position, especially with the future of David de Gea being uncertain. The 32-year-old Spaniard will be out of contract at Manchester United soon, and he is yet to sign a new deal with them.

Onana could be the ideal long-term replacement for the Spanish goalkeeper. The 27-year-old is at the peak of his powers and could make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Furthermore, he has worked with Erik ten Hag in the past, and he knows the Dutchman’s footballing philosophy well. He should be able to settle in quickly at Manchester United if the transfer goes through.

The Red Devils have a talented squad, and they will be hoping to compete for the league title next season. Signing a top-class keeper should be a priority for them. De Gea was quite underwhelming in the past season, and his error-prone performances cost his side valuable points. Onana would certainly be an upgrade on the Spaniard.

The Cameroon goalkeeper is only 27, and he could sort out the Manchester United goalkeeping situation for the foreseeable future. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea come forward to sign the player in the coming weeks. They have been linked with him heavily, and need to bring in a quality goalkeeper to replace Edouard Mendy.

Both clubs have the finances to pay the reported asking price. But Chelsea will not be able to offer in UEFA Champions League football, which gives Manchester United an edge in the transfer race. It will be interesting to see if they pay €50-55 million to secure his services this summer.
