Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino is close to joining Saudi Arabia club Al Ahli as a free agent ahead of next season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roberto Firmino is all set to join Al Ahli as a free agent. Towards the end of last season, the 31-year-old striker announced that he will be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires. The announcement led to a lot of interest from across Europe. But it seems he is all set to be the latest star signing by a Saudi Pro League club.

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo made the move to Saudi Arabia, a lot has changed. A lot of star players have been approached and quite a few have already joined the league. Current Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema, World Cup winner N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly are a few of the players who have already joined Saudi clubs.

Meanwhile, Firmino is also close to joining moving to Saudi Arabia. The 31-year-old joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2015. He has since gone on to win all major titles with the Merseyside club. The Brazil international is featured in over 360 matches for the Reds and contributed towards 190 goals.

After eight successful years, the 31-year-old has decided to part ways with the club. While Liverpool wanted to extend his stay, Firmino was keen on trying a new challenge and decide against signing a new deal.

With the Brazil international available for free, quite a few clubs wanted to acquire his services, including Real Madrid. But, it seems Al Ahli are all set to win the race for his services. Ever since PIF acquired majority stakes in four clubs (Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al Hilal), they have spent a fortune on acquiring star players from Europe.

Firmino is now all set to be the latest addition to one of their teams as they look to make the Saudi Pro League one of the best leagues in the world. Al Ahli have been in talks with the Brazil international for a while now. The talks have been advancing well, and they are in the finals stages.

The 31-year-old has been given a three-year contract by the Saudi Arabian club, and they are very close to putting pen to paper. Firmino and his representatives have been discussing some final details of the offer. Once those are sorted, the Brazil international should be announced as their latest acquisition.
