La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly submitted a contract offer to former Real Madrid midfielder Dani Parejo.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Dani Parejo has become a top target for Barcelona. And the Catalan giants have offered a one-year contract to the former Real Madrid midfielder. In addition, the deal will have an optional year and take him beyond his 36th birthday at the club.

Dani Parejo is a veteran of La Liga with over a decade of experience across four clubs. The 34-year-old has over 450 appearances in the Spanish top flight, with his longest spell coming with Valencia. He was also the club captain during his stint with Los Che but left the club in controversial circumstances.

Since leaving Valencia, Parejo has found a new home at Villarreal, becoming a pivotal figure in the last three years. And the former Real Madrid midfielder has turned out nearly 150 times for the Yellow Submarine, chipping in with nine goals and 27 assists. Meanwhile, the Spaniard has become a top target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.

The newly-crowned La Liga champions have already completed their first signing of the summer transfer window, with Ilkay Gundogan joining them in a Bosman move. But Barcelona will not stop with the German midfielder’s acquisition as Franck Kessie faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou.

Dani Parejo has thus emerged as a top target for Barcelona, especially with Marcelo Brozovic close to moving to Saudi Arabia. And the veteran Spanish midfielder is reportedly open to joining the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have now submitted an offer to the 34-year-old.

Parejo has a one-year contract offer on his table. And the former Real Madrid midfielder will also have an optional year on his deal if he joins Barcelona. While such a short-term contract leaves room for uncertainty, the proposal is understandable, considering Parejo is in the twilight of his career.

The Spaniard has the opportunity to end his stupendous professional career at a big club like FC Barcelona. And it will be interesting to see if the former Real Madrid midfielder accepts Barcleona’s contract offer.
