Liverpool are all set to battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur for the signatures of 22-year-old VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool are keen on having Micky van de Ven in their ranks ahead of next season. The 22-year-old had a breakthrough season last time out, and he has attracted a lot of attention of late.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that are keen on acquiring his services. Spurs had a disappointing 2022/23 season, and they are eager to bounce by making the necessary changes.
Their new manager Ange Postecoglou is looking to strengthen his defence ahead of next season and has his eyes on the 22-year-old. However, it won’t be easy to acquire his services as Liverpool are very serious about their pursuit of the Netherlands Under-21 star.
Van de Ven has come into the limelight on the back of impressive performances in the recently concluded season. The 22-year-old who came through the ranks at FC Volendam made a total of 36 appearances in the 2022/23 season for Wolfsburg.
He was on the pitch for over 3,200 minutes and even contributed towards three goals. Van de Ven who could only make five appearances in his first season, has had an exceptional second season.
He has been the mainstay of his team’s defence and his performances have attracted the attention of Jurgen Klopp. While the Liverpool manager is keen on strengthening his midfield, he also wants to add another world-class defender to the mix.
The German manager wants to ensure that he can use Trent Alexander-Arnold as a right-back as well as in his new-found role in midfield. As a result, Klopp is keen on acquiring a versatile defender who can feature in an orthodox back four as well as in a back three. And, the Liverpool boss believes that Van de Ven is a perfect fit for the role.
The Merseyside club struggled last season and the Netherlands Under-21 star could help them revive themselves. However, with Tottenham Hotspur interested in his services, Liverpool will have to move quickly.
