Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, a target for Manchester United, during the summer transfer window.
Massimo Marrianella has claimed, as relayed by Tutto Napoli, Chelsea are looking to make their approach for Victor Osimhen in the coming weeks. The Napoli striker is also a target for Manchester United.
Osimhen has been linked with a move to Manchester United as well. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat the competition from their Premier League rivals and secure his services. Meanwhile, they are ready to approach Napoli over a possible summer move.
Osimhen was one of the best strikers in the world this past season and he has helped Napoli win the league title. He was productive in the final third, finding the back of the net 31 times while providing five assists in 39 appearances.
It is no secret that Chelsea need a player like him if they want to get back into the UEFA Champions League. The Blues struggled to find the back of the net consistently last season, and the 24-year-old Nigerian striker could make a huge difference for them in the final third.
Mauricio Pochettino must make it a priority to invest in a reliable goalscorer and Osimhen is certainly one of the best around. So he has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea. Meanwhile, Manchester United need to sign a quality striker to partner with Marcus Rashford.
The England international had to carry the Manchester United attack all by himself last season, and he needs more support next year. Both Premier League clubs have the financial resources to get the deal done. And it will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old striker ends up.
Manchester United could have an edge in the transfer race because of the fact that they have qualified for the Champions League. Osimhen wants to compete for the major trophies. And joining a club without Champions League football might not appeal to him. That said, Chelsea have an impressive project, and they have a hugely-talented squad at their disposal.
The arrival of Pochettino will only add to the appeal. The Argentine manager is highly-regarded around Europe, and he could help convince the Napoli striker to move to Stamford Bridge this summer. The striker is unlikely to come cheap. So it would not be surprising if the two English clubs might need to shatter their club transfer records in order to sign the player.
