Bayern Munich are attempting to pour cold water on Manchester United’s pursuit of Chelsea star Mason Mount

According to The Guardian, Bundesliga behemoths Bayern Munich are keen to gatecrash Manchester United’s pursuit of Chelsea star Mason Mount in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with the midfielder but are yet to find common ground with Chelsea. The Blues rejected a third offer from Manchester United earlier this week, much to the Old Trafford side’s frustration.

Erik ten Hag and co. do not appear to be willing to match Chelsea’s valuation. So the ball is now in the Blues court to wrap up the deal. However, they could benefit should Bayern now make it a competition of sorts.

The Bundesliga champions are managed by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, a man who is familiar with Mount’s game. Having used the 24-year-old to great effect at Stamford Bridge, one could argue that a similarly fulfilling role awaits him in Bavaria.

Given that Bayern are not local rivals, there is reason to believe that Chelsea could accept a comparatively lower offer to sell Mount. The player is currently in the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge and has shown little inclination of signing a new deal. The time is nigh for the Blues to cash in on Mount, lest they lose him for free next year.

Liverpool and Arsenal were also previously linked with a move for Mount. But both sides now appear to be looking elsewhere. It could boil down to a direct confrontation between Bayern and Man United for the Chelsea star’s signature.

The Bundesliga has, in recent years, emerged as a fruitful destination for English players. Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho both became household names in Germany before making high-profile moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United, respectively. Mount could take the off-beaten track and go on to enjoy a successful career at one of Europe’s best clubs should he opt to move to Bavaria.

Joining Die Roten will see him reunite with former Cobham protege Jamal Musiala. For now, the race is wide open and it remains to be seen what transpires in the coming days. One way or another, it is difficult to see Mount stay put at Chelsea come the start of the 2023/24 football season.
