Arsenal will table a new €40 million bid for Jurrien Timber in the coming days as Mikel Arteta wants to wrap up the defender’s signature soon.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will lodge a new €40 million plus bid for Jurrien Timber. The Gunners have chased the 22-year-old Ajax defender for a while now and remain hopeful of agreeing on the fee with the Eredivisie giants.

Mikel Arteta is eager to wrap up the key transfer business to focus on other matters as soon as possible. From the outside, it is clear what Arsenal hope to achieve, as they want to sign their primary target early and switch their attention towards outgoings and further reinforcements.

Declan Rice remains their primary target in this window, but they also wanted a new forward and a right-sided defender. A deal for Kai Havertz is already in place, with the medicals and other formalities expected to conclude soon.

They remain in the chase for Rice and could lodge a new bid early this week. Arteta also wants to conclude the pursuit of Jurrien Timber, who emerged as a key target as soon as the transfer window opened. So far, talks have progressed smoothly. But Arsenal are yet to find an agreement with Ajax.

They are even close to reaching an agreement on personal terms with Timber soon. The overall feeling is that the player remains convinced of the project and, at the moment, only wants to join Arsenal. There have been rumblings of rival interest, including from Bayern Munich. But the 22-year-old remains adamant about playing in the Premier League.

While Arsenal are growing optimistic about signing Timber, a new bid seems imminent. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who suggests it would take €40 million or more to have advanced negotiations with Ajax to sign the 22-year-old defender.

Arsenal brought themselves into this chase with a €35 million offer. At that time, Ajax rejected the proposal and set about to ask around €60 million. Soon enough, reports of a possible release clause in the 22-year-old’s contract emerged but got refuted by credible sources.

While Ajax would want a top price for their key player, they might compromise for a lower fee. Arsenal are not about to stay adamant over their valuations but could go higher to about €40-45 million for Timber.

Hence, all parties might conclude this deal soon enough, with a fee between €40-50 million likely to get accepted. If Arsenal manage to sign the defender in the coming days, Timber could become their second summer signing after Kai Havertz.
