Newcastle United will reportedly fancy the chance of signing Danish defender Joachim Andersen from Premier League club Crystal Palace.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Joachim Andersen remains the subject of interest from Newcastle United. And the Magpies are optimistic about their prospects of signing the Danish defender from Crystal Palace. That is because the Eagles are keenly pursuing Perr Schuurs this summer.

Joachim Andersen has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the last few years. The 27-year-old first arrived on the shores of England for a loan spell with Fulham in the 2020/21 season. And after making an impression at Craven Cottage, he permanently joined Crystal Palace in a deal worth £17 million in July 2021.

Since then, the Danish international has come leaps and bounds, becoming a mainstay at the back for Crystal Palace. And Andersen has turned out 72 times thus far for the Eagles, chipping in with one goal and three assists. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle United keen on signing him.

At Newcastle United, Eddie Howe has turned things around spectacularly in the last 18 months. The Magpies have gone from relegation battlers to qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in a short time. And Howe has overseen the transformation without splurging the cash, especially in the defensive unit.

But Fabian Schar is on the wrong side of 30. And while the Swiss international will likely sign a new contract soon, it behoves Newcastle United to sign an alternative. And Andersen has emerged as a viable target for the Tyneside club.  But the Magpies are wary about the Dane’s price tag, with Crystal Palace looking for a profit on the investment of £17 million.

Meanwhile, they are hopeful of securing Andersen’s services in the coming weeks. That is because the Eagles are keen on signing Perr Schuurs this summer. While Crystal Palace initially targeted the Dutchman as a possible replacement for Marc Guehi, he might fill Andersen’s void if the 27-year-old moves across the Premier League.

With Newcastle United optimistic about signing the Danish international, a deal might be on the cards. But the Magpies are yet to approach Crystal Palace for Andersen. And it will be interesting to see if an agreement sees the light of day.
