Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has reportedly been linked with a summer move to Manchester United in recent weeks.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have had a third bid rejected for Mason Mount. Chelsea are demanding a fee of around £58 million along with £7 million in add-ons for the 24-year-old midfielder.
Mount will enter the final year of his contract with Chelsea next month, and he has decided not to renew his contract with the Blues. He is looking to move on in search of a new challenge, and a move to Manchester United is an attractive option for him.
The player is reportedly keen on joining the Old Trafford outfit, with personal terms already agreed. But it remains to be seen whether Manchester United are prepared to accept Chelsea’s demands of a £58 million plus £7 million deal.
Manchester United need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Mount would be a quality acquisition. The 24-year-old England international can operate as a central midfielder as well as an attacking man trailer. His versatility will be an added bonus for the Red Devils.
Mount will add goals and creativity to the Manchester United side. With Christian Eriksen in his twilight years, Manchester United need to plan for the future, and Mount would be a superb acquisition. The 24-year-old is already well-settled in the Premier League, and he should be able to make an immediate impact.
Mount is yet to reach his peak and working with a top-class coach like Erik ten Hag could help the England international improve further. Although the reported asking price seems quite steep for a player in the final year of his contract, Mount is a relatively young player with high potential and he could end up justifying the investment in the long run.
Manchester United certainly have the financial resources to get the deal done. So it will be interesting to see if they decide to come forward with a fourth and improved bid to sign the player. The midfielder was initially linked with a move to Liverpool as well. But the Reds have opted out of the transfer because of the high asking price.
Furthermore, Manchester United can offer the player Champions League football next season and have had no problems convincing the player to join them. Chelsea had a disappointing campaign, finishing 12th in the league table. They will not be involved in European football next season. And a move to Manchester United would be a step up for the player.
