Manchester United have reportedly offered Donny van de Beek to AS Roma, with the Italians likely to mull over a decision for the Dutchman.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United offered Donny van de Beek to AS Roma in an attempt to sell the midfielder. The €39 million star has endured a torrid time since joining from Ajax, with his future up in the air and seemingly no place in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Manchester United fans expected to see the real Donny van de Beek under the tutelage of his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag. Little did they know that a player from the Eredivisie might never show up at Old Trafford, as the midfielder’s season was cut short by a severe knee injury.

Even before that, he was only a bit-part player under Ten Hag, a disastrous follow-up to his torrid season. As things stand, the Manchester United boss plans without keeping the €39 million star in his mind.

Van de Beek will likely leave Manchester United in the summer. The idea would incline towards the midfielder finding his rhythm elsewhere and resurrecting his fledgling career. While there are no visible suitors, many will wait for the Dutchman to regain fitness.

There’s hope the midfielder returns before the next campaign begins, but he might not play too much football if he remains at the club. Hence, Manchester United plans to offload him, with the latest report from Italy suggesting they have already offered van de Beek to AS Roma.

There has been interest from Inter Milan previously, but the Nerazzurri are unlikely to follow up on that. However, the idea of Roma could interest the Manchester United star, who Jose Mourinho manages. The Giallorossi certainly will look to reinforce their midfield, but that’s not their priority.

Even so, they are not overly attracted by the prospect of van de Beek. Moreover, Manchester United could demand a significant price for the Dutchman, which may put Roma off the chase. Gianluca Di Marzio insists they are not prioritising this move but may evaluate the situation after a few days.

As things stand, Manchester United may find it difficult to offload van de Beek for multiple reasons. They will hope for a decent offer to arrive, but the player has the security of a long-term contract at Old Trafford, so he remains under no pressure to leave.
