Inter Milan are keen on Cesar Azpilicueta, who wants to try a new challenge in his career as he could end his long stat at the London club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan are keen to sign Chelsea outcast Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard may have no place in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans. The Blues are keen to extract the last bit of value left in the 33-year-old versatile defender. And the Nerazzurri have already held talks over a possible summer move.

On one look, some suggest Cesar Azpilicueta was a forgotten man at Chelsea, but a little digging will show the defender played 32 times. He was far from a regular but still considered an important part and did play decently.

Injury issues to Reece James may have played a major role in Azpilicueta starting more games than expected. However, the 33-year-old versatile defender is now keen to take on a new challenge in his career and quit Chelsea in the summer.

After the controversy surrounding his protracted transfer to Barcelona, Azpilicueta stayed at Chelsea at Thomas Tuchel’s bequest. He also signed a new deal until 2024, allowing the Blues to extract some fees if the 33-year-old versatile defender decides to leave.

That is the Spaniard’s intention as he feels the need for a new career challenge. While he might have hoped for a move back to Spain, Barcelona are no longer interested in the defender. The next best admiration possibly comes from Italy, with Inter Milan the club keen to sign him.

Inter Milan are eager to make bargain deals in the market as they continue to save money wherever they can. Hence, they have already discussed the idea of Azpilicueta with Chelsea. The two clubs continue to talk about many other players, including Trevoh Chalobah.

Azpilicueta, if he stays at Chelsea and sees out the last year of his contract, may have a depleted role. The Blues signed Malo Gusto in January, with the Frenchman set for a summer arrival. He and James may have the right side of the defence covered, leaving no room for the 33-year-old.

Hence, the two clubs could explore the idea of Azpilicueta, as Inter will be keen to sign him on a free. If he leaves, the Spaniard could add to the list of many other outgoings, with a chunk of the deadwood leaving for the riches of Saudi Arabia.
