Tottenham suffer blow in their pursuit of Chelsea target Nicolas Jackson

Tottenham Hotspur suffer a major blow in their pursuit of Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson who is close to joining Chelsea.

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are all set to fail in their pursuit of Nicolas Jackson. The 22-year-old striker was on fire towards the end of the 2022-23 season and he has been on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe.

Spurs are one of the clubs who have been pushing for his services for a while now but they are all set to lose out on the Senegalese international. Chelsea have managed to win the race for the Villarreal striker and as per the report, the deal is now 90% complete.

The player has agreed on personal terms with the Blues who are all set to trigger his release clause of around £34 million to complete the deal. Chelsea have managed to offload quite a few players of late and a few more will soon follow.

With a decent amount of funds accumulated, they have now shifted their focus back to recruitment. The Blues wanted to acquire a new forward and they seem to be very close to completing a deal for the Villarreal forward who scored nine goals and registered two assists in the final eight games of the La Liga season.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth were very close to signing the 22-year-old back in the winter. They could have acquired him for a fee of around £20 million but a potential long-term injury threat stopped the deal from going through.

Post that the player managed to bounce back. He overcame his fitness concerns and ended the season in red-hot form. Spurs have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old ever since the start of his incredible run towards the end of the season.

Ange Postecoglou has been looking for a new forward ever since he took the Spurs job. He is not looking for an out-and-out striker, he wants to sign someone who is versatile in nature and can also play out wide.

Jackson perfectly fits the bill and would have been a great addition to their ranks given that Lucas Moura has left and Arnaut Danjuma returns to his parent club. But, with Chelsea all set to win the race for the 22-year-old, Spurs will have to look for an alternative.
