Manchester United have already approached FC Porto for Diogo Costa, with Chelsea also interested in the Portuguese international.
According to Rudy Galetti, Manchester United have made an approach for Diogo Costa. The Portuguese international has a €75 million release clause, as suitors seek to negotiate with Porto over the fee, with Chelsea also keen on the goalkeeper.
There’s an intense situation with Manchester United’s goalkeeping department. The Red Devils are waiting to find a solution with David De Gea, and there are uncertainties about whether he would extend his stay at the club.
If he decides to leave as his contract expires on June 30, Manchester United could enter the market for a new goalkeeper. Erik ten Hag had kept his options open if such a scenario transpired. They have monitored the situations of several targets, including Andre Onana, David Raya and Diogo Costa.
Sticking with the latter, the Portuguese international could open the doors for a move away from Porto. Manchester United have reportedly approached the Portuguese side over the keeper, but the €75 million release clause is a problem.

🎯 #ManUTD already approached him: at the moment his release clause (€75m) is considered too high, but #MUFC remain on his tracks.

The two clubs could sit down and find a solution, but Manchester United do not consider the €75 million realistic. How much are Porto willing to come down to remains the question, but they would still want a significant sum for the 23-year-old stopper.
Manchester United are patient now and can wait to find out the future of De Gea. Many fans do not want the Spaniard to continue, but the seemingly evident financial restrictions may see the Red Devils hope for the Spanish star to sign an extension.
Meanwhile, Manchester United must act swiftly if they are serious about the 23-year-old Portuguese. Chelsea are also in the race, having recently bowed out of the running for Andre Onana. However, they, too, have financial restrictions and may seek a cheaper option if provided with one.
They have chased Onana and Milan star Mike Maignan in recent weeks but might also take a look at the potential of Costa. In hindsight, the Portuguese star seems like an expensive option for Chelsea, but they might explore it later in the window once they have financial stability.
