Manchester United will soon present a bid worth €40 million to sign 27-year-old UEFA Champions League finalist Andre Onana.

According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag recently phoned in to Andre Onana. And the Red Devils are ready to offer €40 million to Inter Milan for the 27-year-old goalkeeper. But the UEFA Champions League finalists want at least €10 million more to part ways with him.

Andre Onana had a successful debut season with Inter Milan after joining the Nerazzurri in a Bosman move last summer. The Cameroonian international left Ajax as a free agent after seven fruitful years at the Dutch club. And after initially playing second-fiddle to Samir Handanovic, he became the first-choice goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old particularly made his mark in the UEFA Champions League, keeping eight clean sheets in 13 appearances. And he had 11 other shut-outs in 28 further outings across other competitions. Meanwhile, Onana’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United.

Onana has been on Manchester United’s radar for several years. But they never launched the offensive for the former Barcelona trainee as David de Gea was the undisputed first-choice shot-stopper at Old Trafford. However, the Spaniard’s Manchester United future is now uncertain, with his contract expiring in less than ten days.

The Red Devils have thus scoured the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window. And they joined the race to sign Onana back in April. Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has already spoken to the 27-year-old, who he trained at Ajax for several years.

So the Premier League heavyweights are stepping up their efforts to sign the Cameroonian international. And Manchester United will soon present a bid worth €40 million to Inter Milan. But the Nerazzurri will look to recoup at least €10 million to part ways with Onana.

The Serie A giants are in financial peril and will have to offload a few players to balance their books. And recouping more than €40 million for Onana will help. Meanwhile, Chelsea also wanted to sign the 27-year-old but bowed out of the race last week. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United replace de Gea with the former Ajax custodian this summer.
