Liverpool will have to shell out €40 million to sign 20-year-old American midfielder Yunus Musah from La Liga club Valencia.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, La Liga club Valencia will demand €40 million to part ways with Yunus Musah in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old midfielder is the subject of interest from Liverpool. But the Merseyside club might have to battle other clubs for the youngster.
Yunus Musah is a native of New York but has never represented an American club at the club level. And he rose through the ranks at Arsenal for seven years before finishing his youth career in Spain. The American midfielder joined Valencia in August 2019 before making his first-team debut as a 17-year-old. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds at the Mestalla.
The 20-year-old has turned out over 100 times for Valencia thus far, chipping in with five goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Musah represented England at the youth level before choosing to play for the USMNT a few years ago. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool among his prospective suitors.
The young midfielder has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. And the continued interest by the Merseyside club is understandable, considering their transition this summer. The Reds are losing three midfielders as free agents in the summer transfer window, namely James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister has already bolstered the midfield unit at Anfield. But Liverpool will scour the market for at least two more midfielders, considering the vacant spots in the squad. In addition, with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson blowing hot and cold this past season, Jurgen Klopp needs top-class additions.
Musah is thus a viable target for Liverpool heading into the summer transfer window. And the Reds now know how much they need to shell out to land the 20-year-old midfielder. La Liga club Valencia will demand €40 million to part ways with the youngster ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Valencia’s demands are understandable, considering the American midfielder’s contract will expire in June 2026. In addition, Musah has a high ceiling, thus explaining the valuation of €40 million. But it will be interesting to see if Liverpool will be willing to pay such a sum to secure his services.
