Barcelona will not pursue Sofyan Amrabat in the summer transfer window, even though the 26-year-old will likely leave Fiorentina.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Sofyan Amrabat is no longer the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have ruled out a summer move for the 26-year-old midfielder. But Fiorentina player will likely leave La Viola in the summer transfer window.

Sofyan Amrabat has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Fiorentina from Hellas Verona a few years ago. While the Moroccan international took some time to get going at the Artemio Franchi Stadium. But he has seen his market value soar to €30 million in the last few months on the back of a stunning FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign.

The 26-year-old played a leading role as Morocco became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Amrabat has turned out over 100 times for Fiorentina, chipping in with one goal and one assist. But his stint with Fiorentina will likely end this summer. And he has no shortage of suitors pursuing him, with Barcelona also interested.

Barcelona attempted to sign Amrabat in the January transfer window. But Fiorentina placed an excessive price tag on the Moroccan international, ruling Barcelona out of the chase. However, the Blaugrana continued to pursue the player in the last few months. And recent reports claimed he was the favourite to replace Sergio Busquets at Spotify Camp Nou.

But amid emerging competition for Amrabat’s signature, Barcelona’s prospects have diminished. And recent reports have claimed that the 26-year-old midfielder will likely join Atletico Madrid this summer. Meanwhile, the newly-crowned La Liga champions do not have the funds to match his market value of €30 million.

Now, Gerard Romero has claimed that the Catalan giants have ruled out signing Morocco’s World Cup hero. So it will be interesting to see where he lands this summer amid interest from Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Atletico Madrid. In addition, it is unclear who becomes Barcelona’s top midfield target.

Martin Zubimendi has been Xavi Hernandez’s top target to replace Sergio Busquets. But the Real Sociedad midfielder does not want to leave the Basque club this summer. So it will be interesting to see who the Catalan giants pursue to fill Busquets’s void.
