Trevoh Chalobah hints he is open to Chelsea exit

Chelsea vs FC Noah: Preview and Prediction.

Trevoh Chalobah seemingly hints at a possible summer exit from Chelsea as speculation surrounding a move to Serie A picks momentum.

Fabrizio Romano’s tweet hinted at a possible exit for 23-year-old Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah. The defender cast doubts over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge as he could become part of the many homegrown stars seeking the exit door.

The case is more about Chelsea willing to sell many of their homegrown stars than them wanting to leave on first viewing. The Blues could land in a soup with the FFP if they cannot raise sufficient funds before the said deadline as an after-effect of their enormous spending over the previous two windows.

From one angle, they seem desperate to sell some of their valued players, but alternatively, these stars don’t have a future at the club. There’s no explanation as to why they want to cash in on someone like Manchester United-linked Mason Mount, but others like Ruben Loftus-Cheek have not been performing well.

Moreover, selling homegrown or academy stars will massively help Chelsea balance their accounting books. Alongside Mount and Loftus-Cheek, others like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are considered dispensable.

Fabrizio Romano’s tweet ran some of his recent comments, potentially hinting at an exit from Chelsea for Chalobah. The 23-year-old said, “Moving to Italy? We never know what happens; I like Italy — it’s nice country. But I’m under contract at Chelsea.”

“Level is high in Serie A, they have very good teams and I also like how’s life in this country”.

The potential hint at a move to Serie A is nothing new. Inter Milan have been linked with the defender, while there was previous admiration from Roma. In the past, at least three well-known Chelsea stars have left for Italy, which may inspire Chalobah to continue that trend.

Chelsea had held discussions with Inter Milan regarding the defender, but nothing has come of it so far. They might have also tried to include him in a part-exchange deal considering Andre Onana and Nicolo Barella are of interest to the Blues.

Surprisingly, there’s hardly any concrete interest from Premier League sides in the 23-year-old Chelsea star. Yet, one cannot rule out the possibility, meaning there could be top-flight teams who might wait before reading the entire situation well.

Chalobah played centrally and as a right-back for Chelsea last season. They already have sufficient cover in the full-back role, while they could look to bring a new centre-back in this window, provided they could raise sufficient funds.
