Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a possible summer move for 23-year-old Italian midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.
Nicolo Zaniolo was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer. But the North London club did not manage to agree on a deal with him, and he ended up joining Galatasaray in January. According to a report from Milliyet, English clubs are keen on signing the Italian midfielder this summer, and he is likely to cost around €30-35 million.
Tottenham are reportedly the closest to signing the midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal done. Zaniolo would add some much-needed creativity and technical ability in the final third for Tottenham.
The North London club have been crying out for a creative midfielder like him, and he should prove to be a quality acquisition for them. The 23-year-old can operate as a central attacking material as well as a winger, and his versatility will be an added bonus.
Zaniolo has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time. But a move has never materialised for one reason or another. Meanwhile, Spurs have confirmed the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski. But the departure of Lucas Moura will open up a void that the Italian international can fill.
Newly-appointed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou prefers to play free-flowing attacking football. So his system could be an ideal fit for Zaniolo, who will have the license to influence the game in the attacking half.
Signing a recognised creator will also allow players like Harry Kane to focus on scoring goals. The England international had to shoulder the creative burden along with the goalscoring load this past season.
Kane will need more help, and Tottenham must look to bring in the necessary reinforcements this summer. Signing Zaniolo for €30-35 million could prove to be a reasonable outlay. And the player has the potential to justify the investment in the coming seasons.
