Tottenham Hotspur are interested in AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo, and an approach could materialise in January or next summer.

According to Wett Freunde’s interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are actively considering an approach for Nicolo Zaniolo in the next windows. The 23-year-old Italian attacker has an ongoing contractual situation with AS Roma, which could create an opportunity for suitors, including Spurs.

Since Jose Mourinho took over, Nicolo Zaniolo has become one of AS Roma’s top stars. He has the manager’s trust, and the Serie A giants continue to find a way to prolong his stay. Recent reports indicated an impasse in contract negotiations, with financial requests yet to be resolved.

The stories indicated Zaniolo reportedly wants €4 million per season and a sizeable bonus on top. Moreover, the 23-year-old Italian international also demanded a release clause be inserted into the contract. Roma could agree on the release clause and bonus claims, but the salary on offer is slightly lesser.

Hence, there is a fear Zaniolo may not commit to new terms and make himself available for a transfer away from Roma. Recently, Arsenal have been linked with a move, but their north London rivals Tottenham seem closer to the player.

Tottenham showed interest in the summer but could not agree on a deal with Roma for the 23-year-old Italian attacker. The English heavyweights wanted to send a few of their unwanted stars on loan in exchange for Zaniolo. But Roma were not keen on the deal and kept hold of their star man.

Zaniolo reportedly remains open to joining Tottenham and wants to work with director Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte. Spurs supposedly retain an interest in the attacker from last summer, which could prompt an approach in January or summer.

Tottenham will gladly sign Zaniolo if he is available. Moreover, they are well placed to pay what the Serie A side are demanding for the 23-year-old Italian attacker. Whether that happens in January or the summer remains to be seen.

Conte has lacked a player with creative ability this season, as the entire burden falls on Harry Kane. Bringing in someone like Zaniolo would help the England captain play with more freedom in the final third while drastically improving the team’s ability to create scoring chances.
