Crystal Palace are monitoring Perr Schuurs as a potential replacement for Marc Guehi, with Newcastle United also interested in the Torino man.
According to Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are chasing Perr Schuurs as they seek to ramp up their defence for the upcoming season. The 23-year-old Serie A defender is also interested in Newcastle United, as Palace could see him as a viable replacement for Marc Guehi.
Perr Schuurs has had a good season under his belt with Torino. He has caught the attention of many top clubs, particularly from the Premier League. Real Madrid were also linked momentarily, but the general direction seems like England.
Schuurs might open the doors to a move to England if he lands a concrete offer from one of the suitors. Liverpool’s name got mentioned several times, but Jurgen Klopp may have switched his attention elsewhere, with Benjamin Pavard reportedly linked with a move.
Newcastle United are also keeping tabs for some time now, with the 23-year-old Serie A defender considered a serious option by Eddie Howe. However, there are plenty of things to consider for Schuurs before deciding on a big-name club, as he would want regular playing time.
Does he get that at Newcastle, considering the dynamism of current starting dup Fabian Schar and Sven Botman? There are doubts, and hence he could open his doors for a move to one of the mid-table sides, namely Crystal Palace. Profile-wise, he suits them perfectly, although much will depend on what Torino ask in return.
Palace may see an immediate need to bring a new centre-back, considering Marc Guehi continues to attract plenty of interest. The England international could become their full-time captain next season and is a key player for the London club.
However, he might move on if one of the top six sides makes a move for him this summer. In that scenario, Palace might view Schuurs as the ideal replacement option, as they might look to get him on the cheap. Even without Guehi departing, they could still bring the 23-year-old Serie A defender to London to reinforce their backline.
For now, Crystal Palace are only monitoring his situation, but there might be an intent to make a formal approach soon. They must act fast before one of the bigger sides, including Newcastle, make their presence felt in this window, which may result in the Eagles losing out on the centre-back.
