West Ham United have reportedly tabled a bid to sign 20-year-old Liverpool whizkid Fabio Carvalho on loan this summer.

According to a report by Football Insider, Fabio Carvalho is the subject of interest from West Ham United. And the Hammers have already submitted an offer to sign the 20-year-old whizkid on loan in the summer transfer window. The Liverpool prospect is also a target for RB Leipzig and a few other English clubs.

Fabio Carvalho is a native of Torres Vedras in Portugal. And while he began his youth career at SL Benfica, he spent most of his formative years in England. The Portuguese under-21 international spent a year with Balham FC before joining Fulham in 2014. And after passing through the London club’s academy, he became a pivotal figure for them.

Carvalho’s progress soon captured the attention of several high-profile clubs. And Liverpool signed the 20-year-old in a cut-price deal last summer. But while the youngster had a few bright moments early in the 2022/23 season, he had a campaign to forget. And he had become a bit-part player for Liverpool by the time the curtains dropped on the term.

Carvalho managed less than 700 minutes of game time for Liverpool this past season, chipping in with three goals. And with Liverpool keen on signing multiple midfielders, Carvalho’s fortunes will unlikely improve next season. So it behoves him to leave Liverpool on loan. if not permanently. And West Ham United might offer him a temporary escape route.

Carvalho is a versatile midfielder who can play centrally and on the left flank. And such an attribute makes him a utility man and an attractive target for his suitors. As for how he will fit at West Ham, the 20-year-old can compete with Said Benrahma and Lucas Paqueta. And if Paqueta takes up a deeper role following Declan Rice’s departure, Carvalho might become the first-choice no. 10.

The Hammers have now submitted an offer to sign the Liverpool whizkid on loan for the 2022/23 season. And considering RB Leipzig will look to sign the youngster permanently, West Ham’s bid might convince Liverpool to temporarily part ways with him.

The 20-year-old is also a target for Burnley. And it will be interesting to see where Carvalho plies his trade in the 2023/24 season. For now, leaving Liverpool on loan next term seems like the best option for the Portuguese under-21 international.
