Arsenal are closing on signing Kai Havertz as they could reach an agreement with Chelsea in the next few days.

According to Sky Sports’ Angelo Mangiante, Arsenal are very close to signing Kai Havertz after recent developments. The Gunners could reach an accord with Chelsea over the fee for the German international, with personal terms not considered an issue with the player.

The Kai Havertz to Arsenal story continues to develop with each passing hour. There are a lot of factors in play with this transfer story, with Chelsea desperate to make sales before a reported June 30 deadline pertaining to FFP regulations.

Following their heavy spending in the last two windows, various reports have suggested Chelsea will have to show for sales in their accounting books. So far, they have not made any but remain hopeful of deals for Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic.

Moreover, only after bringing in funds might they be able to sign new players. While that speculation rumbles on, Sky Sports’ Angelo Mangiante insists Arsenal are getting very close to signing Havertz. Chelsea have already rejected a first bid from the Gunners, with the Blues reportedly seeking £70 million.

Before Arsenal opened talks with Chelsea for Havertz, Real Madrid were keen on the forward. They viewed him as a direct replacement for Karim Benzema but baulked at his asking price. They were unwilling to pay more than £40 million for the 24-year-old Chelsea attacker.

As things stand, Real Madrid are out of the race for Havertz, thus opening the path for Arsenal to steadily progress towards signing the 24-year-old Chelsea attacker. Meanwhile, many reports from this week claimed the German was keen to join Mikel Arteta’s side too.

Personal terms are not an issue for Arsenal, as those are nearly agreed upon. The Gunners will now look to swiftly finalise a fee with Chelsea, as suggestions point towards a £55-60 million bid. At that price, the Blues could accept and move on from a player that has not shined as many expected him to.

From Arteta’s perspective, he will get a top-quality player who can take multiple attacking positions in a fluid system. Havertz, 24, will also provide a long-term option and join a group of a similar age profile that could benefit the club for the next few years.
