Arsenal table bid to sign Kai Havertz

Arsenal tabled a bid for Kai Havertz on Wednesday, but it is well short of Chelsea’s asking price, which stands at £75 million.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal have tabled a bid for Kai Havertz. The proposal somewhat undermines Chelsea’s valuation of the player, which currently stands at £75 million. The Gunners will continue holding talks with the London counterparts to agree in the next few days.

Arsenal are ramping up their transfer activity as Mikel Arteta makes it clear which two players he wants at the start of the window. The Gunners are reportedly talking with West Ham United for star midfielder Declan Rice. They have now added Kai Havertz to their list of priority targets.

Many believe the club will look to finalise a move for Rice on priority. As per earlier reports from today, the Gunners have had their opening bid for the midfielder rejected by West Ham. However, they remain on the cusp of sealing the transfer, considering there’s a willingness from all parties to get the deal over the line.

On Wednesday, Arsenal opened talks with Chelsea for Kai Havertz, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Meanwhile, David Ornstein broke the news first, claiming that the Gunners had already submitted an offer for the 24-year-old ace.

Chelsea continue to value Havertz at around £75 million, which the Gunners consider too high. Further stories indicate talks will continue between the London clubs to find a middle ground to agree on a fee. Reports indicate Arsenal might be open to paying around £60 million and ready to table a £200,000-a-week deal for the German international.

The 24-year-old is also reportedly keen to move across London and join Arteta’s squad. He also had interest from Real Madrid. But like Arsenal, the Spanish giants were unwilling to pay Chelsea’s asking price. Arsenal may have the upper hand, as the Spanish giants may bow out of the race altogether.

Arsenal will likely make a concerted effort again for Havertz, as Arteta views him as a good profile for his squad. The 24-year-old can play in various attacking positions, including a focal point up front. It certainly adds quality depth in attack as the Gunners juggle on domestic and European fronts next season.
