Newcastle United are pushing ahead to sign 26-year-old UCL finalist Nicolo Barella in a potential £50 million deal.

According to Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United are trying to sign Nicolo Barella in a £50 million deal from Inter Milan. The Magpies are keen on strengthening their midfield and are want the Italian international to form a part of Eddie Howe’s squad.

Newcastle United are perceived as one of the richest clubs in the world, and they are considering the wealth their owners have. But, even since their takeover, the Magpies have led a cautious approach in the transfer window and gone against the narrative of splashing the cash.

Their astute signings have massively helped them qualify for next season’s Champions League. Eddie Howe will need a pack of quality players to compete on all fronts, and Newcastle United have already lined up a few deals. The Newcastle boss requires a defender, full-back and two midfielders, with one very attack-minded.

They are already in talks to sign James Maddison from relegated Leicester City, and the Englishman will cost a significant sum. That aside, Howe also wants a new midfielder to strengthen the central position and free up Bruno Guimaraes to play more advanced next season.

They are pushing to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan in a potential £50 million deal. The 26-year-old recently helped his team into the UEFA Champions League final and won two domestic cups this term. He might look at the Premier League’s interest and consider a move.

However, it is a difficult prospect to deal with Inter Milan for one of their prized assets at this stage. There is also the interest of Liverpool alongside Newcastle United in Barella. But the offer of Champions League football could put the Magpies in a good position.

If they are to negotiate a deal with Inter Milan and also sign Maddison, Newcastle United may have already exhausted a large chunk of their transfer budget. If they wish to bring in more players, Howe will only have to look at cheap deals.

For instance, they might find it difficult to sign someone like Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and have to pivot towards a cheaper alternative, like Kyle Walker-Peters. Hence, one has to take the Barella links cautiously and wait for the club to take the next steps.

On paper, the Barella move seems logical from Newcastle’s perspective. However, there are complications, as Inter may not want to let one of their top players leave this easily, especially for the reported price of £50 million.
