Chelsea have turned down a £40 million Manchester United bid for Mason Mount, with a new offer likely to follow.
According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have rejected a £40 million Manchester United bid for Mason Mount. Speculation around the attacking midfielder remains rife, with the Red Devils likely to treat the Blues with another offer lower than their valuation of the wantaway playmaker.
Manchester United have set their sights on Mason Mount to arrive this summer. The club’s board identified the Chelsea star as someone who could improve Erik ten Hag’s squad and have put themselves in the driving seat ahead of their rivals.
For many months, Liverpool were considered the favourites to land the 24-year-old, as Jurgen Klopp likes him. However, with the Reds seemingly going in another direction after knowing Chelsea’s potential asking price for Mount, Manchester United have taken the front seat.
There was also the interest of Arsenal. But as things stand, Mount reportedly prefers Manchester United. Many were expecting the Red Devils to make a formal bid, and there was no clarity on whether they would meet Chelsea’s asking price.

Mount has also given his green light on personal terms, with the wantaway Chelsea playmaker likely to earn around £200,000 a week in wages. The Blues have rejected a £40 million Manchester United bid for Mount, which falls well below their £70 million valuation.
Despite the setback, which often occurs with opening bids, Manchester United could reportedly follow up with a second offer. Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that the next bid could be worth £50 million, including add-ons, which Manchester United hope will test Chelsea’s resolve.
Manchester United feel confident about Mount and their chances to sign him. The playmaker has a year left on his deal and a new contract nowhere in sight. They feel the onus is upon Chelsea to lower their price or risk losing Mount on a free transfer next season.
Manchester United are confident Mount will not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge. So they will not come close to Chelsea’s asking price. However, the two clubs could continue negotiating to reach an agreement over the 24-year-old transfer, with the Red Devils increasingly looking like Mount’s favoured destination.
