Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Arthur Melo ahead of the summer window, with the Brazilian likely to depart Juventus.

According to Tutto Juve, Arthur Melo is attracting interest from Premier League clubs, despite a failed stint at Liverpool. The Brazilian does not have a future at Juventus, and the Bianconeri could cash in in the current summer window.

Arthur Melo will reflect on the season behind and possibly consider the missed opportunity. After sealing a move to Liverpool last summer on loan, the Brazilian international seriously hoped to impress Jurgen Klopp and possibly stay at the club for the long term.

However, injury issues right from the start of his tenure here and the form of others ensured Arthur barely played in the side. Liverpool had long decided not to make the signing permanent, meaning the Brazilian had no option but to return to Juventus.

The 26-year-old Liverpool flop carries a €22 million price tag on his head ahead of the summer. There are clubs keen, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa reportedly interested in signing him as an option. Both clubs were reportedly linked with a move for Matteo Guendouzi, which indicates their need for a new midfielder.

Unai Emery has European duties on his head for next season and will want a group with the right mix of flair and experience. Despite the 26-year-old Liverpool flop not playing regularly, he still has the talent to shine at a place like Villa next season.

Hence, the Brazilian remains a viable target for Emery, who could also consider the price tag and approve the signing. They are in the race for some expensive midfielders, with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone also a target for Aston Villa.

However, Arthur faces competition from Newcastle United, who are looking to add midfield depth for the upcoming season. The Magpies will play in the Champions League and could make do with players experienced in the competition.

Arthur may not have played a huge role for Liverpool this season, but his past performances give him the edge regarding talent. The Liverpool flop will have to decide on his future, as he has no place in this Juventus squad unless there’s a late twist in the tale.

Eddie Howe somewhat struggled to have depth in quality with injuries to key players like Sean Longstaff last season. However, the Newcastle United boss would need to bring in more quality players in every position and could start with the cheap option of Arthur.

The Brazilian’s experience could help Newcastle United with their objectives, but he has to do more to become an absolute starter next season. The news about Newcastle and Aston Villa should get the rumour treatment, as nothing is decided. They might look at the Brazilian but will want to pay a lower fee than what Juventus wants.
