Aston Villa enter chase for Manu Kone

Aston Villa have entered the race for the signature of 22-year-old midfielder Manu Kone amidst interest from Liverpool.

According to Daily Mail, Aston Villa are keen on having Manu Kone in their ranks. The 22-year-old has been doing wonders over the past two seasons, and his performances have attracted a lot of attention. There could be a bidding war for the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder in the summer, with Liverpool also interested. And he will cost around £35 million this summer.

Kone joined Borussia Monchengladbach back in the winter of 2021; he has since gone from strength to strength. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the 22-year-old has featured in 31 matches and also had two goal contributions.

The French Under-21 star’s performances have attracted a lot of attention. And, Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on having the 22-year-old in their ranks. The Merseyside club struggled in the 2022/23 season because of an inconsistent midfield, and their priority heading into next season is to revamp the centre of the park.

The Reds have already acquired Alexis Mac Allister and are now keen on adding the Gladbach midfielder to the mix. Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Kone, and he believes the French Under-21 star has all the qualities needed to help his side. And, Liverpool have already established contacts with the player’s representatives.

However, they are all set to face competition from Aston Villa. Unai Emery has done wonders since joining the English club. He has helped them qualify for European football and is now looking to strengthen his team to make sure they can take the next step and be competitive in multiple competitions next season.

Emery is keen on acquiring a new central midfielder, someone who is versatile in nature. Kone has all the qualities the Spanish manager is looking for. While the £35 million-rated midfielder’s contract runs until the summer of 2025, he is expected to be on the move in the summer given the amount of interest in his services.
