Alvaro Odriozola is reportedly ready to leave Real Madrid, with the 27-year-old keen on rejoining his former club Real Sociedad.
According to a report by Radio MARCA, as relayed by Madrid Xtra, Alvaro Odriozola is finally ready to leave Real Madrid. And the 27-year-old wants to rejoin his former club Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window. But La Real will not want to pay a fee to re-sign the defender.
Alvaro Odriozola would have joined Real Madrid with a lot of hopes and aspirations. Los Blancos signed the Spaniard from Real Sociedad in July 2018 amid much hype surrounding him. But he has failed to live up to the billing, struggling to compete with Lucas Vazquez, let alone usurp Dani Carvajal as the first-choice right-back for Real Madrid.
Loan spells at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina did not work out either, with the player featuring sporadically. And Odriozola’s struggles continued this past season as he managed only 94 minutes of game time across six appearances. The 27-year-old’s Real Madrid future is thus uncertain, even though Carvajal has been inconsistent.
Recent reports have linked the Spanish international with several La Liga clubs. And the player is now ready to call time on his frustrating stint with Real Madrid after half a decade of a stop-start spell. The report also adds his preferred destination, and he wants to return to his former club Real Sociedad.

Real Sociedad’s interest in Odriozola is surprising, considering Imanol Alguacil has two right-backs at his disposal. And neither Andoni Gorosabel nor Alex Sola might leave La Real in the summer transfer window. In addition, both the right-backs are younger than the struggling Real Madrid defender.
So the interest in the 27-year-old does not make much sense. But the Basque giants want a low-risk operation as they do not want to pay a transfer fee to secure Odriozola’s services. So while they want to re-sign the Real Madrid full-back, a free transfer might be the only solution.
As for the Spaniard, leaving Real Madrid is the best decision for his progress. His career is headed nowhere, with Carlo Ancelotti unlikely to include the player in his plans. So Odriozola’s best prospects will greet him once he departs from the Santiago Bernabeu.
